What a mind reader wears

First impressions count

Do I have a business suit? Yes, I do. I have a tuxedo, too. But I dress to fit in to your event. The look and feel of an elegant mitzvah or corporate event is significantly different from that of a backyard party. My job is not just to look like I belong, but to stand out just a little. The idea is not to draw attention to myself; the intent is to show respect to my host and guests.

Second impressions matter, too

Mine is an affable, professional, and accessible personality. I want attendees to feel comfortable when I approach a group at a cocktail party, or when I am on stage asking participants to join me. Stage presence extends beyond good posture and a voice that carries: it starts with demonstrating that I’ve made the effort to deserve your attention even before we meet.

How do I know what to wear

While my job is to intuit the very thoughts of others, some information is more easily obtained by my just asking for it. That’s why in my initial contact with a client, I ask what the dress code of the event will be. I am always bemused by performers who dress without regard to how the attendees will be dressed. A tuxedo is no place for a backyard barbecue; an untucked collared shirt with sleeves rolled up is no place for a corporate event or mitzvah.

I dress to deserve attention; not to command it

As a professional mind reader, I am not walking around in a costume. I dress to fit in. I want your attendees to feel that I am approachable and appropriate. This is part of how I brand myself.

There are often pictures

My interactions are more personal and authentic than the interactions guests are going to have with a DJ, bar tender or caricaturist. As a result, guests often ask to have photos taken with me. That memento needs to represent me as someone who belongs at that event. It’s no small detail, yet it’s so easy for so many to get so wrong. I care about keeping the attention of your guests where it belongs: on your guests and your honoree.
